Description
This type was introduced in 1928. Several configurations were available, offering different capacities. The main use of this model were regional lines, especially in Saxony. In the early 1930s, newly developed engines were introduced and the bodywork modernized, leading to the new models 4 OR 657 and 5 OV 657, which were in production throughout the 1930s. For TTDX, these changes are omitted, so only one OV 57 model is available for a longer period of time.
This model shows the developments of the 1920s. The lower frame, introduced by Benz in 1925, allows a more elegant form, and the larger engines develop enough power to reach acceptable top speeds, even in hilly terrain. Thus, it becomes possible to connect towns and cities where railways are too expensive to be built.
