Description
Ikarus had presented the new series 200 in 1968. It featured a variety of models from inner city transport to luxurious coaches. The city bus 260.02 and its articulated version 280.02 became the backbone of inner city transportation in East Germany from the mid 1970s until the 1990s, when more modern types became available after the German reunification. However, many were used in schoolbus and similar services for quite some time, before being sold in the late 1990s.
The type 260 is a typical city bus, optimized for fast passenger exchange (hence the third door) and offering a good capacity while being comparably cheap.

Images and Screenshots
The photos were taken from http://ratb.stfp.net/, a site about busses and trams in Romania. All images posted there are released into public domain.
I have not found any suitable photos of these busses in East Germany. However, they are still widely used in Eastern Europe, so I took photos from there. Apart from the licence plates, the differences are negligible. Especially note the standard yellow colour and the opened door in the third photo, this was and is used to make up for the lack of air conditioning during hot summer days.
