Description
In the early 1960s, a standard scheme for German city busses was proposed to reduce cost. The first generation of these so-called VÖV-I standard busses had a length of 11 m and a rear engine with at least 150 HP. A variety of companies were included in the development process. The O 305 was among the most successful VÖV-I busses. It was introduced in 1968 and remained in production for almost 20 years, the last units to be retired during the late 1990s.
This bus is quite an outstanding design. It holds a remarkable number of passengers, has quite a good top speed for a city bus, and above all, it is very cheap and yet reliable due to the standardization of most parts.
