Description
At the same time as the "egghead" DMU VT 08 was designed, this electric variant was built as well. They were planned for local services in the rural areas of Rhine and Ruhr, the most densely populated part of Germany. They saw service mainly between Cologne, Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Essen and Dortmund, forming the backbone of local services well into the 1970s. Once newer vehicles became available, there were sidelined quickly, with the final retirements coming in 1984.
In the game this type forms the precursor to the S-Bahn services that can be started in the 1970s, meaning local services with short distances between many stops. If the corresponding tracks have been electrified already, one can also just use them for ordinary local services.
