Description

The ICE 3 is a totally different design compared to the ICE 1 and 2. With a top speed beyond 300 kph it is also the fastest train on the German network. The trains were put into service starting in 2000 and are running all across Germany.

There are several variations of the ICE 3, with different combinations of electric systems and safety equipment to allow cross-border services. These trains therefore regularly run to Amsterdam and Paris. After the opening of the new high-speed track between Nuremberg and Erfurt as well as between Erfurt and Halle they also run between Berlin and Munich as well as between Berlin and Frankfurt. The rollercoaster line between Cologne and Frankfurt is kind of home turf for this type since 2004 as well.

In DBSetXL this train is the fastest one by far, clearly focusing on high-speed passenger services. Contrary to the ICE 1 this one allows the tracks to have steeper slopes without struggling or losing speed too much. This reduces the need to built expensive and long tunnels.
