Description

Originally, the E 10 was constructed as multi-purpose electric engine. However, due to the technical limitations at the time, it proved to be necessary to develop specific types for specific services, resulting in the E 10 being an engine for fast and express trains. The type became the backbone for these services on electrified lines, until it was later phased out by the faster class 103. In 1968 the numbering scheme was changed, the E 10 turned into class 110 and the services were then shifted more towards regional passenger trains.

The engines remained in service until the late 1990s, when newer EMUs became available. Many units reached an age of more than 50 years before being retired in the early 21st century.

In the game this type is the top choice for fast and express trains at the time. After about 1970 it can be moved over to regional services, as the express trains are taken over by class 103. In the regional services, class 111 will probably be the replacement during the 1970s.

Upon introduction, the BR 110 is painted blue, indicating a fast electric engine. Here it hauls an express train consisting of main line coaches. The red one is a dining car that is attached automatically once the train is long enough.

The BR 110 is also the ideal engine for the fast express trains ("F-Trains") of the 1950s. The blue livery is obtained by refitting the main line coaches.

Starting in 1960 the BR 110 comes in a special livery for the Rheingold II luxury trains. These trains have special coaches, which are added automatically if the train is long enough. The third coach is a dining car, the fifth one is a dome car.

The Rheingold II is replaced directly by the TEE. The coaches are the same as before, just in a different color.

In the 1970s almost everything was given a cream-blue livery, which of course includes the BR 110.

The last livery is the red of the modern DB introduced in the 1990s. Here it is seen with an Interregio train.
